A contemporary artist working across NSW and based in the Central West, Jenny Beach has lived between the remote outback, rural and regional centres, and the heart of the city – all at once. It is these differences and contradictions that shape her art practice.
Her qualifications and experience are varied. She is a Registered Nurse, has a Diploma in Interior Design, and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Sydney Leadership Program. While she now places her practice firmly in painting, she has also been involved in textiles and interior design. In 2014 she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the National Art School and has been practicing full time as an artist since 2012.
Her work is focused on a dialogue between the figurative and abstraction, and somewhere along the way she always includes a conversation with he spiritual and the metaphorical. Her work oscillates between the macro and micro of natural forms and the landscape. Ask her who her mentors and teachers are, and she will talk about Old Masters such as Turner and Twombly, and the New Zealand artist Colin McCahon. You will hear of Euan McLeod, Elizabeth Cummings, Mikayla Dwyer and Martin King. Her all time favourites are West Australian Artist Howard Taylor, and Aboriginal Artist – Rover Thomas, who always brings a smile to her face! It is largely the commitment and process, and the way they lived their life and practices their profession that she will mention. .
She has a studio and gallery in the Old Bank of NSW building (circa 1902) in the historic Central West village of Millthorpe, and exhibits regularly across Eastern Australia. She has been commissioned to provide a collection of works for the DeRussi suites in Orange and to curate for charitable events such as the NAB Camp Quality Auction.
