Current works

Jenny’s current work takes us on a metaphorical journey through life, death, history and evolution. She uses the forms, movement and meaning found in nature, and integrates research, history, culture, and symbolism. New layers of meaning emerge visually, and conceptually, through the works, thinking, experiences and the titles.

Literally, the works focus on birds, animals, organic and figurative forms found in nature. Conceptually the works evolve to symbolize life and death through historical, social, religious, cultural, and political episodes. Her work pushes the boundaries and relationships between ambiguity and the image, using techniques such as drawing, redrawing, collage, repetition, stencils, cut-outs, layering and painting.

Metaphors…The eagle

Drawing – The RFDS series – June 2015

A selection of drawings from the RFDS trip, tracing the essence, connections and energy of this land through the heart of Australia’s centre and far north.  Each of the works is created on handmade (recycled cotton rag) paper 30cm x 30cm.

The works capture the range of energy from quiet and silent, to violent and demonstrative, all transcribed through the motion of the mode of travel. Each alteration in the land is felt and interpreted by the artist, with a process and limited control, and makes another mark on the work.

A dialogue forms between the figurative aspects of nature and abstraction, as the internal and external energy meet. Each change in the land if felt and interpreted through the vehicle, hand of the artist and the medium.

These and the Kimberly series map over 25 000km of the land.
Colour, where it is used is a conceptual interpretation of the internal and external landscape, the relationship, the emotions and memories.
